What we extract from a BMO statement
A BMO business checking statement from BMO Bank N.A. (the bank was called BMO Harris Bank N.A. until a legal name change on September 3, 2023) starts with a "How to reach us" block at the top of the first page. Further down sits a summary row: beginning balance, number of deposits and their amount, number of withdrawals and their amount, service charges, and ending balance. Our BMO template reads that row, because the activity listing has to land on those same figures.
The activity itself is the Monthly Activity Details table, with Date, Transaction description, Withdrawal, Deposit, and Balance columns. We decide whether an amount is money in or money out by the column it sits under, not by how it is printed, and the figure in the Balance column is a running balance, so it never becomes a transaction. Descriptions that wrap onto the next lines, such as a card number or a wire reference, stay attached to their row.
Service charge rows are filed as fees, and the Service Charge Summary table and the legal pages at the back of the PDF are left out of your export.
BMO's summary row is the benchmark. The activity rows are totalled and measured against it, service charges included, so a misread scan shows its difference to the cent before you export.
Exports and retention
Excel, QuickBooks CSV (3-column and 4-column), and Xero CSV, free up to 3 pages a day with no signup and no watermark. Scans, photos, and password-protected PDFs work, and your file is deleted the moment parsing completes: see our security page, or a sample export.
BMO statement conversion: FAQ
Does this work with BMO business checking statements?
Yes. The BMO template was calibrated on business checking statements, so that is the account type it was built on. Personal checking and savings layouts weren't among the statements it was built on.
What if my BMO PDF has more than one account in it?
BMO lists each account in the Statement Summary and gives each one its own summary row. When a PDF holds more than one, we flag it and do not merge the accounts into one export. To convert them, send the pages for each account in their own file.
Can I convert a scanned BMO statement?
Yes. BMO scans and JPG or PNG photos are OCR'd automatically, ahead of extraction. OCR can misread a digit, and when that throws off the totals you see the difference to the cent before you download.
Is the free tier enough for BMO statements?
Yes. A BMO statement converts to Excel, QuickBooks CSV (3-column and 4-column), or Xero CSV without signing up. The free tier adds no watermark and allows 3 pages a day.
