What we extract from an M&T Bank statement
An M&T Bank business checking statement puts a short summary block on its first page: beginning balance, deposits and credits, less checks and debits, less service charges, and ending balance. We read those five lines first, because the ending balance is meant to equal the beginning plus the credits, minus the debits and the service charges.
Below it, the Account Activity table has one column for deposits and other credits and one for withdrawals and other debits, plus a daily balance. We decide money in or money out from which column an amount sits in, not from a sign. The opening balance line is not a transaction, the daily balance column is a running total and stays out of your export, and charges described as a service charge are filed as fees.
Layouts we have read include M&T Professional Services Checking and M&T Simple Checking for Business. Each activity row has a full date, so there is no year to guess.
M&T prints a summary, and the arithmetic in it is what we test: the beginning balance plus deposits and credits, less checks and debits, less service charges, should land on the ending balance. We run that sum on the rows we extracted. Agreement gets a Balanced mark, and a miss is shown as the exact difference before you download.
Exports and retention
Excel, QuickBooks CSV (3-column and 4-column), and Xero CSV, free up to 3 pages a day with no signup and no watermark. Scans, photos, and password-protected PDFs work, and your file is deleted the moment parsing completes: see our security page, or a sample export.
M&T Bank statement conversion: FAQ
Does this work with M&T Bank business checking statements?
Yes. The M&T template was built on business checking statements, including the Professional Services Checking and Simple Checking for Business layouts. If the template can't balance a statement, the general parser gets a turn, and the balance check applies to whichever result you see.
What if my M&T Bank PDF has more than one account in it?
Merging is something we avoid: a PDF with more than one account is refused with a note, which keeps one account's activity out of another's. Send each account's pages as its own file.
Can I convert a scanned M&T Bank statement?
Yes. OCR runs automatically on scanned PDFs and JPG or PNG photos before extraction. Because a scan can misread a digit, a scanned statement may not balance, and the gap is shown to you before you download.
Is the free tier enough for M&T Bank statements?
Yes. M&T Bank statements can be exported to Excel, Xero CSV, or QuickBooks CSV (3- or 4-column) on the free tier. There is no signup and no watermark, and the limit is 3 pages a day.
