What we extract from a Citizens Bank statement

A Citizens business or commercial checking statement carries a Balance Calculation near the front: Previous Balance, Checks, Debits, Deposits & Credit, and Current Balance. The Citizens template reads those figures first, so it knows what the transaction lists have to add up to. We worked from statements headed Commercial Checking, Clearly Better Business Checking and Analysis Business Checking.

Checks and Debits are money out, and Deposits & Credits are money in. Debit lines print the amount before the description, and wire transfers can add several detail lines for the beneficiary, which stay attached to their transaction. Dates print as month and day only, so the year comes from the Beginning and through dates at the top of page one. The dated Daily Balance listing is a running balance, not transactions, so it stays out of your export.

A month with no activity converts to an empty transaction list that still balances, and an overdrawn ending balance keeps its minus sign. Anything in the PDF that did not come from Citizens, for example a court cover sheet filed alongside, contributes no rows.

Citizens prints a Balance Calculation, and the figures in it are the test. We total the rows we pulled out and set them against Previous Balance, Checks, Debits, Deposits & Credit and Current Balance. A match is marked Balanced, and a mismatch shows the exact difference, all before anything is downloaded.

Exports and retention

Excel, QuickBooks CSV (3-column and 4-column), and Xero CSV, free up to 3 pages a day with no signup and no watermark. Scans, photos, and password-protected PDFs work, and your file is deleted the moment parsing completes: see our security page, or a sample export.

Citizens Bank statement conversion: FAQ

Does this work with Citizens Bank business checking statements?

Yes, for business and commercial checking. The Citizens template was built on statements from Citizens business and commercial checking accounts. Personal checking and savings statements weren't part of that set, so don't count on the Citizens template for them.

What if my Citizens Bank PDF has more than one account in it?

Each account has its own Balance Calculation, so a PDF showing more than one is a PDF with several accounts. The file is stopped with a note rather than merged, and splitting it is not done for you. Upload each account's pages separately.

Can I convert a scanned Citizens Bank statement?

Yes. A scan, or a JPG or PNG photo, is run through OCR on its own before extraction, with nothing for you to switch on.

Is the free tier enough for Citizens Bank statements?

Yes. The free tier covers Excel, Xero CSV, and QuickBooks CSV in both the 3-column and 4-column layouts. You need no account, files carry no watermark, and the daily limit is 3 pages.
